Here you find our SvensLab Alumni including Bachelor and Master as well as our former PhDs and PostDocs.

Thanks for your part in the labs guys!

2021

Sebastian Kiehstaller - PhD Student

After the completion of my Masters, I started as a PhD student in  Sven's Lab.

In my project I investigate how certain mutations of crucial amino acids in my proteins affect binding to their partner molecules using various techniques, especially X-ray crystallography.

I spend my spare time running or skating through Amsterdam or relax with a good book or music.

2019

Sabine Graf PhD Student

I studied biochemistry at the University of Tübingen and did my diploma thesis in Silke Hauf’s lab at the MPI Tübingen. In September 2012 I joined Sven’s lab as a PhD student.

I'm studying protein-protein interactions of the Smad protein family and their various interaction partners. We want to modulate the stability of these transcription modifying complexes and thereby regulate transcriptional imbalances.

In my leisure time I go for a run, listen to music or go out for a drink.

2017

Fabian Mörtl  PhD

After having studied Biology in Bochum with focus on structural Biology, I want to combine this knowledge with functional studies here in Sven’s lab as PhD student.

Apart from working in the lab, I like spending my time in the nature or with music, either making it or listening to it.

Laura Roszyk  PhD Student

At the moment I'm studying Chemical Biology at the Technical University of Dortmund and work alongside in Sven's Lab. I’m looking forward to do my master thesis at Sven´s Lab to work with RNA, their interactions and using fluorescent RNA tags.

In my spare time I hang around with my girls, go to the cinema or out for a drink…;)

Dr. Siva Jeganathan - PostDoc

After being trained as Biochemist, I am learning chemical synthesis of peptides to target Protein-Protein interaction that are important for transcriptional regulation. After leaving SvensLab I continue my academic career and seek for funding options for my independent research group.

Out of the lab, I like to drink with friends, play Carrom, watch Cricket, and listen Music.

2016

Dr. Nicole Pospiech  PostDoc

Before I joined Sven's Lab as a PhD student, I studied Biology at the University in Bochum. In my PhD project I worked in the field of long non-coding RNA's.

After work I like to spent some time with my friends, do some sports or just relax by reading a good book.

MaSc Nele Hollmann

I did my bachelor thesis at Sven's Lab to learn how to work in a lab practically. After finishing my thesis I stayed there as a research assistant and keep on going investigating the impact of promotor architectures of transcription factors. After I finished my work here I went to continue my PhD studies at the EMBL in Heidelberg.

Beside this, I like to do a lot of sport, reading a good book, or just sitting on the couch, watching TV and doing nothing…

  Svenja Koch

Before I joined Sven's Lab as technical assistant I worked at the Ruhr University in Bochum.
I organize and run the lab, help out where I can if someone gets stuck and try to get everybody new in the lab started quickly.
After finishing my work I spend some time with my friends or try to do some sports but it always ends up in doing other 'really important' stuff... ;-)

MaSc Hannah Cibis

I'm studing Chemical Biology at the University of Dortmund and write my master thesis at SvensLab in the field of long-non-coding RNA.

In my spare time I like to go to cinema or play board games with friends.

BaSc Regine Siedentop

At the moment I'm studying chemical biology at the TU Dortmund. In SvensLab I'm working on my Bachelor thesis which is about fluorescent RNA. Afterwards I'll start with my master study.
In my spare time I like to read, do some sports, draw or just meet my friends.

MaSc Benjamin Heinz

After I finished my master thesis in the Grossmann lab dealing with amino acid/peptide synthesis, Sven offered me an interesting project including the synthesis of RNA binding chromophores. I joined the group from January to August 2015 as a research assistant to help in this project.

I joined the group of Claudia Höbartner in Göttingen in November 2015 continuing to work on a more chemical perspective of RNAs. Now I am trying to synthesize modified RNA building blocks for solid phase synthesis of oligonucleotides.
In my spare time I like to do some kinds of sport. I prefer mountain sports like climbing and bouldering.

2015

MaSc Sebastian Kollenda

After studying M. Sc. Chemical Biology at the TU Dortmund and graduating in Sven's Lab dealing with a Protein-RNA interaction assay, I went on to Prof. Dr. Epple's group at the University of Duisburg-Essen as a PhD student. Here, I'm working on the biomedical applications of biomodified inorganic nanoparticles now.
It was a wonderful opportunity to work in SvensLab to go further into academic research.

MaSc Felix Borowski

After studying Chemical Biology at the TU Dortmund
and graduating in Sven's Lab by exploring protein-protein
interactions of cross-talking signal transduction pathways I went on
to Prof. Reiner's group at the Ruhr-University Bochum as a PhD student.
Now I'm elucidating how ligand binding effects the signal
transmission of certain receptors on their structural level.
I really had a good time at Sven's lab and appreciate their
endeavor to take the next step into academia.

  Dr. Kathrin Czora
I studied Chemical Biology at the Technical University of Dortmund and I completed my university studies with my Master´s thesis at the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund.

After having finished my PhD thesis in Biology at the University of Wuppertal, I joined Sven´s Lab from January to September 2015 as a Postdoc to work with non-coding RNAs and to study their protein interactions. Now I´m working as a teacher in school.

BaSc Sandra Seredinski

I wrote my thesis in SvensLab about noncoding RNAs. Now I continue studying Chemical Biology at the TU Dortmund.

In my leisure time I often go for a run, draw and read some books.

BaSc Verena Kunig

I wrote my bachelor thesis at SvensLab which dealt about fluorescent RNA. Currently I’m studying Chemical Biology at the Technical University of Dortmund to continue my masters study.

In my spare time I like to bake, read, do some sports and meet my friends.

BaSc Rebekka Scheinpflug

I’m studying Chemical Biology at the University of Dortmund and wrote my bachelor thesis at Sven’sLab. Along the way, I worked with fluorescent RNA tags. Now I'm continuing my masters study at the TU-Dortmund.

2013

MaSc Matthias Weith
After my studies of biotechnology at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Biberach and Mannheim, I was eager to follow my interest in the diverse nature of proteins and their interactions.

Now continuing my studies as a PhD student at the University Duisburg-Essen, I appreciate my time in Sven's lab. It was great to take the step into academic research in a lab with an exceptionally open scientific atmosphere.
