Sven's Lab

Welcome to Sven's Lab

Our group is located at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Within this interdisciplinary environment we can focus on our research and also run the VU X-ray facility which is open to new scientific collaborations.

Our genome (DNA) is converted in a very tightly regulated processes ('Transcription') into RNA molecules. Afterwards protein synthesis takes place in a process called 'Translation'. Once certain key players of Transcription are mutated and cannot do their job as usual we exhibit diseases like various types of cancer, fibrosis or neuronal disorders. Our group wants to understand transcriptional complexes of proteins and nucleic acids. Based on this we try and modulate their transcriptional outcome by modulating their activity.

What we exactly do to achieve this and how we want to target such a goal, you will find in the Scientific Project Section.

The Central Dogma of Molecular Biology by Francis H. C. Crick, 'On Protein Synthesis', Manuscript 1956. Orange Box indicates where we want to adjust disease states within cells using different strategies (see Scientific Projects for details).
